On the south coast of the Île de Ré, Sainte-Marie unfolds its white lanes, stone low walls and green shutters, very close to the beaches and the vineyards. Around the bell tower, La Noue and the Place des Tilleuls bring together cafés, a market and artisans.
The island houses display exposed stone, beams, a fireplace, walled gardens and outbuildings, sometimes a barn to be reinvented. Orchard, sandy ground and sea-breeze calm create a simple way of life.
The island is connected to the mainland by the Pont de Ré and bordered by the Vélodyssée cycle route. The Phare des Baleines, the salt marshes and the Lilleau des Niges reserve offer walks, cycling and birdwatching.
