The county family began in the 13th century. The construction of new buildings, of which elegant remains remain, in particular the ceremonial room with the west wall and its Gothic windows: four bays (originally six) twinned under a pointed arch. The adjoining chapel, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, was incorporated into the defence. As for the 15th century dwelling, which is still standing, it welcomed the lords who occasionally passed through to visit their estate and hunt. The castle retained great military importance until the middle of the 17th century. Where the annexation of the region by the King of France caused it to lose its border position and its strategic interest. It was dismantled, like many others, on the orders of Cardinal Richelieu. It burned down at the beginning of the 18th century and fell into ruin. However, part of it was rebuilt in brick and stone, with a slate roof, on top of the existing medieval cellars -- a configuration typical of the Picardy region. Some buildings related to agricultural and forestry operations have been maintained. The complex now constitutes a vast rural residence, marked by a thousand-year-old history, on the edge of a game forest.
